A frogtown mini golf on the river walk. There aren't many places around to play mini golf and it's a great , fun, positive way to have fun and come together with family, and friends.
A Recycling drop off downtown is needed!!!!! So many residents live downtown and our properties do not have a recycling bin.
As a resident of downtown who prefers to stay in the perimeters of downtown in my everyday life-I think I grocery store in central downtown would benefit many residents. We can already eat, socialize, bank, work, go the gym all downtown.
I would like to see a car museum placed in one of the old Warehouses such as the one next to the highlevel. this meusum could build its own collection over time, however I sugest creating a car club that would charge minimun car storage fees for old cars. these car could then viewed by the public daily. if the own wish to take their car out for a day or show they can. there would be a meeting rooms, car repair shop, restraunt....
We need to remove cars from our lifestyles and infrastructure!!! we need a trolley that goes down door street to down town. Transit oriented development!!! no more cars!!!! Walkability yesssss!
The redesign of summit street through downtown is great. If we can incorporate similar design ideas to similar streets (Monroe, Erie, Washington, etc.) I believe the city would benefit greatly.
Too much focus on car movement and not pedestrians. We flaunt our “trifecta” of a convention center, arena, and baseball stadium, yet do little to improve the experience of attending an event. Erie, Monroe, and Washington Street are all too “forgiving” of a design and would all benefit from a “road diet”, sidewalk widening, and the addition of more street trees/vertical elements to both slow traffic down and improve the pedestrian experience. Proud of the strides Toledo is making!
Looking at the overhead view on the ideas page, it's stunning how much of the land use downtown is for surface parking. We have 20,000 spots already, so why are we still building massive surface lots for tiny office buildings like the new one on St Clair by Maddie and Bella's? Is there a way we can prohibit building additional surface lots downtown, especially in the Warehouse district where we should be using as much space as possible to encourage new residential?
Seems like the most supported posts all revolve around safe, accessible spaces downtown built around people and not cars (I agree!). Here's some simple ideas to start working towards those goals: reduce speed limits to 20 MPH everywhere DT; flexible bollards to create protected bike lanes and prevent illegal parking; automatic camera ticketing. Transformative goals: narrow traffic and reduce highways cutting across DT; pedestrian/bike only streets (for goodness sake at least St. Clair St!)
The ConnecToledo board has all the right people on it yet we hear nothing about the organization’s activities or accomplishments. We used to but now it’s fairly quiet with little promotion of downtown’s potential and activities. What changed? This “survey” should have had public hearings. The meetings at the library during the creation of the first master plan were inspiring and educational.
As a proud former Toledoan who loves to come back & see growth, how about a TOLEDO-themed store that benefits TOLEDO?!? I know JupMode has many Toledo items, as does UT, but how about a store (virtual or retail) that somehow gives back to this great city? For example, I buy a tshirt w/a map of downtown & a portion of the price goes into *funding a downtown project*. Just as I show my UofM pride w/a hat, my Toledo pride would be evident — all while raising $$$ to help it too!
There’s almost zero retail/clothing options. No liquor store. One gas station Limited quick bite food options Expensive parking on game days/ events Uber/ lift/ public transit issues
Downtowns strengths are that is holds lots of our architectural history, and people want to live and work downtown. Hockey Arena Convention center Ball park Soccer field * Bars/ restaurants
I would like to see more shopping/retail outlets In the central business district ( lasalles, 4 corners, Huron street ) A traditional movie theater would work well. A bowling alley/ pool hall/ arcade. I love the metroparks but wish we had a disc golf course at glass city Metropark or middle grounds. I would like to see a playground/ rock climbing wall/ outdoor exercise area at Middlegrounds metropark. An electric subway running north south east west would be great/
I wish we could have more events for children especially during the holidays and summer. We can have more family friendly festivals downtown. We could increase the number of restaurants for after work socials. We can definitely use more trees, bushes and flowers.
Decorating the city with edible plants, such as berry bushes & fruit trees. These look beautiful (especially while flowering) and provide people with access to fresh fruit
Attracting and retaining a diverse mix of downtown residents needs to be a priority, but as a downtown resident, I don't see this actively marketed. I know the city considers it a priority, but I don't see it in action. I also know many young adults who have left downtown for neighborhoods; most citing their dogs as a reason, some when they have kids, some because rentals are so much more prevalent than ownership options.
I’d love to see a comedy club a playhouse and an art museum downtown Also, more fine dining and shopping, whether it be in the form of boutiques or an indoor mall
Need newer buildings and/or renovate old buildings to accommodate retail/ art/fine dining
Smartest thing that’s been done for Toledo was to move the mudhens and Storm/Walleyes downtown. That point started making downtown more of a family friendly area
Better parking
I would love to see giant TOLEDO letters that would draw people to get their picture taken. Weddings, graduation, etc. I’ve seen several cities do this and include art on the letters to show what the city is known for.
Safe, green walkable and bike friendly spaces. Sustainable neighborhoods. Smart neighborhood planning and development. Smart growth that reuses former facilities amd brownfields in a way that builds community.
More local business: shops, restaurants, breweries, etc. Close streets more frequently for block parties & events that complement the surrounding businesses. I wish our Downtown was more like Ann Harbor's Downtown. People should want to make day trips just to shop, eat & see what's happening.
Downtown needs a cohesive variety of attractions that can keep people occupied for an entire day. With sporting events/concerts, bars & restaurants being the primary draw people seldom spend more than a half day/evening downtown. Several local shops within walking distance of each other would do a world of good. More local & quality food & drink options. Get rid of all the chain bars & restaurants that don't actually care/contribute to the area. Restore the abandon and under utilized buildings.
As a city planner for over 45 years, let me offer this: 1. Build Mass: Give first priority to building on (thus eliminating) some key parking lots that kill the vitality: a. South side of the 500 Block of Washington Street between Huron and Superior. This is the most egregious “scar” in a terribly critical high pedestrian place across from the ballpark. b. The “Paramount Block” at Huron and Adams. A block of surface parking is a dead zone. I suggest a mixed use project with a garage (photo)
A large warehouse bar or brewery downtown with ample space would be awesome. I’m thinking similar to Rhinegeist in Cincinnati. Great space for large groups and events year round in a fun, laid back atmosphere.
There is a disconnect between riverwalk and the rest of downtown. And generally the wide streets make traveling on foot feel unsafe. Pedestrianizing Summit St., St. Clair and other key areas would be key for making downtown feel more welcoming. Adding parking garages instead of surface lots could also help.
More pedestrianized areas. I would love to see areas like Adams Street between Huron and Erie, or Erie to Superior, closed to traffic and opened up for pedestrians and cyclists. Closing Summit St between Jefferson and Madison linking the Levis Square space to Promenade Park would be an incredible draw and make travel between the River and downtown business much, much safer. Just doing that could increase traffic and make businesses in that area more accessible.
Light rail/street car down Monroe Street all the way to Franklin Park Mall! Let's make it easier than ever for anyone and everyone to get across our city.
Increase safe cycling infrastructure. One option is putting in car-protected bike lanes on the one-way streets (bike lane near curb, parking next to it). We also need more parking for cyclists. I see so many chained to signs and even ramps that inhibit ADA access. Installing bike racks at every major building would be a simple way to eliminate this. One glaring missing parking area is near the Glass City Center. I'd also like to see things like basketball court near the stadium or uptown
Renovate what's there. The historic vacant buildings are so interesting and could be beautiful if brought back o life. More dining/regular entertainment options. Maybe some disc golf as part of glass city park? It seems so dead and vacant, just needs a little more life to become a beautiful fun city again.
More basketball courts for kids and adults both to enjoy! We need more outdoor activities for everyone besides just that as well like parks and other sporting activities.
They really need to include a skatepark downtown. All skaters already love downtown as it is but if we had a designated spot to go, it would bring a lot more of a social aspect to the area. As well as being a free place to go for entertainment, skaters love to put on contests and special events. Not to mention a lot of regular people love to stop and watch skateboarders too. And we would love to keep it in the city instead of going to sylvania pacesetter!!
I would love to see a Marina at Hollywood casino! My husband and I have a boat in the Detroit,MI area. If we could boat to the casino and stay the night it would be amazing!
No way of knowing how possible this could ever be: While we as Toledoans own the "Muddy Maumee" nickname for our great river, with so much new development along the riverfront it would be SO nice to have water that wasn't so... brown. Even if there was a lofty decades long goal to improve the quality of the water, it would be important. The new Glass City Metropark, the Riverwall, Promenade, etc. suffer from this in my opinion.
More shaded spots in the promenade.
First let’s applaud all the effort that has gone into downtown. Thank you. Moving forward like many have said downtown needsmore retail, grocery, non event based entertainment. But without more of a full time population frequenting those businesses non of them will can survive. So at this point downtown needs more full time residents to support all the things people want downtown. A university would help with this as students are probably going to be the most willing to live and help grow downtow
I would love to see more shopping areas in the Downtown area. Lots of awesome restaurants and parks, but it could definitely use a few more places for shopping! Back in the day there was also a movie theater, I think that would be an awesome unexpected change as well in the downtown scene! Mixed with vintage classics (I know the Valentine does this time to time..) and new releases.
Add more bike racks on madison ave around the four corners area and towards the PNC building and Levi’s square.
