These ideas are great, but inner West Akron neighborhoods where homes are for sale are being purchased from LLC’s who just want to fix up and flip to make a buck. There’s no ownership in communities of color. We become prisoners in our own homes. This has beta problem for over 22 years when I organized block clubs and neighborhood watch. There’s no sense of anything I grew up with.
Schneider Park is a big open space without many amenities. Adding a few pavilions, benches, outdoor restrooms, and/or outdoor exercise equipment could really add to its functionality.
The stop signs at the traffic circle at Mull and S. Hawkins should be replaced with yield signs.
We have a lovely tree canopy throughout most of West Akron
If the city's unlawful development of the White Pond Reserve is stopped and overturned, this could be used for actual park space, and ecology center, and/or a community plant garden/library
We have a fair number of grocery, retail, and dining options.
Creating segregated, paved lanes for bicycle and foot traffic would go a long way to improving bike safety and would likely encourage more folks to ride bikes. This could be done in some places by removing existing sidewalk. Especially good if they can be heated to melt snow/ice. Benefits to this are manifold: fewer cars on streets, less wear and tear on roads, fewer emissions, better health/exercise opportunities, better sense of community (i.e., through more people visible)
Bike infrastructure is subpar. To the extent that bike lanes exist, they are not separate from car traffic, which increases the risk of collision.
Public transportation does not stop frequently enough.
We have a lot of beautiful homes with character. They just don't build them like this anymore.
